Sharnaz holds BS and MS degrees from MIT in the field of materials science and engineering with special concentration on semiconductors. While at MIT, she completed 3 research projects at IBM Yorktown Heights on silicide and copper materials for semiconductor applications. Her MS thesis was awarded a patent for her contributions in novel chip processing techniques. In addition, she holds a PhD from the University of AZ in the field of optical materials. She received awards from the American Ceramic Society (1994) and the American Chemical Society (1995) for her dissertation on novel materials for integrated optics. She has authored/co-authored 25 technical publications.

Sharnaz complemented her technical background with 10 years of experience in new business development, strategic marketing, and development of new applications in the semiconductor, automotive and telecommunication industries. She has held positions at Donnelly Corporation, Air Products and Chemicals, Cymer, FEI and QDI. Some of the highlights of her career include attaining electronic markets for Donnelly's electrochromic technologies, commercialization of novel microelectronic chemicals at Air Products and Chemicals, commercialization of Cymer's first Advanced Process Control software package, authoring of a business plan at FEI to penetrate a new metrology market, setting-up of worldwide distribution sales channels at QDI. Finally, Sharnaz is a co-inventor of the novel strategy planning process (patent-pending) and COP methodology used at Arscentia.
